No fewer than nine Nigerian coaches have been certified with the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) certificates after undergoing an intensive one-week training course in Lagos.
Naija Tennis Special gatheredfrom Coach Abel Ubiebi of the Aces Tennis Academy who put this training together, that two courses were done (10 Under & 11-17 years performance).
"The course is under Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) and the clinician who conducted it was Dr Louie Cap from US.

"We have over 100 certified PTR coaches in Nigeria and the PTR has been on consistently since 2007 but with two years break. "This is d first time in Nigeria coaches are been certified for the 10 Under and 11-17 years performance," the coach stated.

With their membership stretching to all countries of the world, PTR is a credible platform for Nigerian coaches to gather more experience.
PTR was founded in 1976, by world renowned coach Dennis Van der Meer.

"PTR Membership offers unparalleled educational materials, opportunities, career assistance and most importantly, worldwide recognition and respect with a mission is to educate, certify and service tennis teachers and coaches around the world in order to grow the game," he added.
Each participant paid about $600 to participate while the organiser forked out $1800 to put the whole event together.

On the benefits of the training for the coaches, Coach Abel informed that: "they will have a worldwide accepted certificate. They will be able to give the right foundations to kids who train under them. "They will be able to train high performance juniors.They will have a two-year benefit of the organisation membership with free access to training material.
