CBN Open Gain: 12-yr-old MaryLove Jumps To No 4 On National Ranking

Following from her unprecedented feat at the recently-concluded Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Senior tennis open, talented Nigerian tennis starlet MaryLove Edwards is now Nigeria's number 4 ranked female tennis player.

According to the rankings sent exclusively to Naija Tennis Special by Musa Saidu, the president of the Nigerian umpires association, the young tennis star is now among the elites in the sport in Nigeria.
MaryLove and her coach before the final match at the CBN Open which she lost in two straight sets to Sarah Adegoke, who is now Nigeria's number two player.
The US-trained star only has Christine Agugbom, Sarah Adegoke and Blessing Samuel ahead of her in first second and third places respectively.

She now tops the likes of former National Champion, Ronke Akingbade, Loveth Donatus, among other more established senior players in the country.

In a chat with our correspondent after the release of the ranking, MaryLove's coach, Kayode Savage, expressed great delight by the win, stating categorically that becoming Nigeria's number four was not his plan for her.
MaryLove is now number four on the senior national rankings.
"I actually told myself that we have been preparing her to become Nigeria's number one at some point. So we are still not there yet.

"However, this is a good step already, and it shows that we are doing something really well. Being on top is not the end, but staying at the top," the man fondly called KK told Naija Tennis Special.
