World Junior C'ship: MaryLove, Quadri Record Stunning Wins As Nigeria Humbles Kenya

Nigeria's contingent to the World Junior Tennis Championship had the last laugh at the tournament when the team defeated their Kenyan counterpart in their final game of the competition Naija Tennis Special can authoritatively report.

The team had suffered mixed fate since the start of the championship, with Oyinlomo Quadri standing out as Nigeria's player of the tournament after winning three consecutive matches but the entire team could not win a game.

They were beaten by South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt before turning the table against Kenya to win 3-0 in an entertaining encounter.

MaryLove Edwards who had been unable to secure a victory throughout the tournament managed a 6-1, 6-0, while Quadri struggled to record a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 over her opponent before pairing up to record a 6-3, 6-4 win in the doubles to complete a 3-0 rout.

According to Coach Abel Ubiebi: "The girls are really happy after securing that all-important win against Kenya.

"It was a sweet victory for the entire team after the initial crises suffered in previous games. MaryLove won excellently, while the ever-fighting Barakat (Quadri) proved yet again why she is one for the very top.

"We are grateful to all Nigerians who supported us throughout our stay in Tunisia and also the federation for backing this trip up."

Naija Tennis Special also gathered that the players and the coach are expected back to the country on Tuesday, 4 July baring any last minute challenge.
