GSL Open: Otu Loses To Top Seed, Holds Head High In Defeat

He may have lost his match against Maximilian Neuchrist, the Australian number three seed at the GSL Open in Abuja on Wednesday, 2 May, but Thomas Otu was quite brave on the court and did not show any sign of defeat after the encounter.

The Nigerian player lost 3-6, 4-6 in the third match played on the centre court of the tennis section at the national stadium in Abuja, but it was not one to be ashamed of as he was outstanding on the court even though it did not yield the desired results.

Nigeria's Otu remains upbeat in spite of the loss.
Otu's loss ended Nigeria's fairytale run at the $25,000 + H ITF Futures which lasted three weeks as Nigerian players keep striving so hard to make the breakthrough on the pro-circuit over the years.

Throughout the three weeks which the tournament lasted, Nigerian players played in the main draws through the qualifying series and wild cards, but they barely made any impact in the competition, as their more experienced foreign counterparts stole the show when it mattered most.

The players are still keeping their hopes high in anticipation of the first local tournament of the year as the year hits the business half.

Nigerian Tennis Live will keep tabs on tournaments and development with the players as the year continues.
