Zim Futures 1: 5-Star Imeh Shocks Indian Star, Sets Up Clash Against Garanganga

Nigeria's Joseph Imeh was no match for Kuran Vazirani, his Indian opponent, in their first round match at the ongoing ITF Futures in Zimbabwe, Nigerian Tennis Live reports.

The Nigerian number one ranked star, was very quick in dismissing the man who came into the main draws via the qualifiers, in their match that did not last more than 1hr 24mins. Imeh won the match 6-2, 6-3 in a defeat which seemed rather easy for the dread-wearing Dala Hard Court losing finalist.

After the win, the 2017 Ikoyi Masters winner will now square up against favourite home boy, Takanyi Garanganga, in the second round which serves off on Wednesday, 30 May, 2018.

Other Nigerians in the tournament, Sylvester Emmanuel and Christian Paul, were not so lucky in the competition, as they lost their first round matches to Aaron Schmid and Milen Ianakiev; their Swiss and German opponents respectively.

Major gave Schmid, the number six seed, a really hard time on the court and was even leading at some point in the game, but could not withstand the firepower of his opponent before succumbing to a 4-6. 4-6 loss.

Christian on the other hand, could not play as much as he wanted against Ianakiev as he sustained an injury early into the game, forcing him to play a 0-6, 3-6 game against the German hitman.

The Nigerian pair of Imeh and Christian will now look forward to their doubles match on Tuesday, against the Benjamin and John Courteny Lock, the number one seed in the team event.

Nigerian Tennis Live will keep monitoring the players' performance in Zimbabwe and report to our teeming audience, how they are progressing.
