Junior Player Upsets Christian; Imeh, Babalola Continue Winning Streak As CBN Open Hots Up

Nigerian Tennis Live can report that Christian Paul became one of the first male casualties at the ongoing Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Senior Tennis Open in Abuja, after being defeated 6-4, 4-2 (rtd) by Musa Mohammed, one of the local players at the tennis section of the national stadium in Nigeria's federal capital.

Paul, who just returned to Nigerian after representing Nigeria at the Davis Cup team tennis tournament in Kenya, suffered defeat in the hand of the youngster in the first set of the encounter before ending the game having picked up an injury in the course of the game.

The loss will come as a rude shock to followers of the game in Nigeria, as the youngster had never been on the radar of tennis action in the country prior to this competition, where he will now be noticed following the result.

In other matches decided today, Nigeria's number one tennis star, Joseph Imeh, continued his winning streak in the tournament with a 6-1, 6-4 defeat of John Otu; Abdulmumin Babalola also moved closer to defending his title as he won in two straight sets of 6-1, 6-3 against Philips Abayomi.

Henry Atseye, a former winner of the competition, is also through to the next phase of the tournament, after recording a 6-3, 6-2 win over Daniel Odeh.
